Recycling, rubbish and street cleaning
Monday 19 March 2018
Waste and recycling collections in most parts of the city are now getting back to normal. However some residents may find their bins haven’t been collected over the last few days.
The snow and icy weekend weather conditions meant our CityClean drivers, who also grit our roads, were engaged in urgent gritting duties. This must be carried out as part of the council's legal duty to ensure the city’s roads are safe.
Extra crews were on standby at the weekend to continue catching up with any outstanding collections, but both the weather and gritting impacted on this work.
If you've been in touch about a missed rubbish or recycling collection, please be assured that we’re working hard to get services back to normal. We’re sorry we’ve not been able to reply to you with individual responses.
Keeping our city clean and litter free is very important to us, and we’d like to apologise for the inconvenience the backlog and missed collections is causing.
Both Household Waste Recycling Centres are currently open.
We're currently experiencing high demand on the phone, with a possible wait of 30 minutes. We're answering calls as quickly as we can and are sorry for the delays.
If you're trying to call please bear with us or alternatively use one of our online forms. You can use these to report missed collections, overflowing street bins, request a new bin or box, report hazardous items for urgent street cleaning or request a general street clean.
If you have already called to report your missed collection please be assured we are looking into it. Multiple calls, email and online reports about the same issue will delay our response to you and to other people.
Our staff answering the phones are here to help you. They will do their best to answer questions but may not be able to let you know when a collection can take place. We understand customers may feel frustrated but please be polite and respectful to staff.
We are receiving your email enquiries but at present we are unable to respond.
We’re currently unable to monitor our Recycling and Refuse Twitter and Facebook pages so please don’t report any problems on either of these social media platforms until further notice.
